November 3 Election Deadlines

Tuesday, October 13 is the deadline to register to vote or change voter information!

To register in Virginia you must:

  • Be a U. S. Citizen.

  • Be 18 years old (any person who is 17 years old and will be eighteen years of age at the next general election shall be permitted to register in advance and also vote in any intervening primary or special election).

  • Not be registered and plan to vote in another state.

  • Not currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law.

  • If convicted of a felony, your right to vote must have been restored.

Registration applications can be found at website for the Department of Elections or picked up at your Registrar’s Office. In Lynchburg that office is at the upper level of the Kemper Street train station.

Failure to answer starred (*) items is the most common reason for denial. Please note, a full social security number is required. Applications must be signed and dated. If you provide an email address or phone number, the Registrar can quickly contact you if there are problems with your application.

If you have moved or changed your name since you last voted, be sure to update your voter information. To do that, click here.
